ActiveX Error
ActiveX is, in many ways, a lot like Java. It plays a big role in how many web pages work, is responsible for executing downloads, and has full access to Windows. ActiveX usually works very well, but errors do happen sometimes. If you've recently experienced an ActiveX error, you'd probably like to know how to fix it. That's the subject of this article.
Why Does the ActiveX Error Occur?
It can occur for a variety of reasons. The most common is that the files that run ActiveX have been messed up in some way. Other reasons include missing files and viruses/spyware. Sometimes, installing a new program may also be the cause.
ActiveX Error Due to Messed Up Files
ActiveX is not immune to the many security issues Windows is prone to. Hackers mess up ActiveX on computers all the time. If you've noticed that ActiveX errors have suddenly started appearing, it's possible this is the reason.
Your first step towards resolving it is to get a good anti-virus and anti-spyware program on your PC. Run a full scan with each and get rid of any spyware or viruses that are found.
If this doesn't solve the problem, try uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveX.
Missing Files
If you get an ActiveX error that states files are missing, there is only one fix for you: a complete reinstall of ActiveX.
Viruses/Spyware
Viruses and spyware can also cause ActiveX errors. If this is the root of the problem, all you need to do is get anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on your PC and use them to get rid of the viruses/spyware.
Program Messes Up ActiveX
Certain programs may not interact with ActiveX very well. If this is the case with your PC, you may need to download a patch for the program(that will allow it to work with ActiveX) or maybe even delete the program.
Security
If you've toyed around with your security settings lately, you may have shut off ActiveX or disabled it in some way. This can cause an error. Check your settings and make sure ActiveX is fully enabled.
