Common PC Errors
It has happened to all of us. An important document freezes mid-sentence, forcing you to restart your computer and lose more than an hour's worth of work. Your browser window mysteriously disappears right as you are finishing an important email to your boss. You try for hours to upload a picture, only to get an error message again and again. Pop ups flood your screen, making it difficult to work or browse the internet. A ten-minute project takes hours after dealing with error after error after error. Control, alt delete becomes like second nature to you. Yes, if you user a PC for work or pleasure, you've probably gotten used to your share of errors.
PC errors not only cause intense frustration, but also waste hours of precious time for users. PC errors can wreck all sorts of havoc on your system and therefore, your life. PC errors cause systems, software and the internet to run slowly. They also cause programs not to run properly and software not to function to its capacity. Fortunately, you don't have to be a technology geek to fix many common PC errors. In fact, armed with a little bit of knowledge and a little bit of time, any average PC user can make sure that their computer is operating at its full capacity.
Surprisingly, many PC errors are often fairly simple to fix. Most errors stem from an overload of system files and software that have been uploaded, downloaded, moved or erased, resulting in a trail of leftover system debris that interferes with the function of your computer. While it sounds like it would take an expert search-and-rescue mission to find and remove this debris, your computer is actually set up to a lot of the work itself. A simple disc scan will not only scan your system for errors, but your computer will be able to repair simple errors by itself. A disc scan takes about five minutes and can be done by going to the system tools menu. The system tools menu is found by going to the start menu, then to all programs, and then to accessories.
Another self-fix that your computer can do for itself is scan it's current software and program files and find missing, partial or corrupted files. These missing, partial and corrupted files are common on most computers and can be the cause of many different common PC errors. Your computer can usually even fix or replace these files with new versions all by itself, which in turn, makes sure that your windows-based programs and software are running correctly and without errors. By using the Windows File Utility, you can find, fix and replace these files in a matter of minutes. The Windows File Utility can be found through the start menu. Go to run and type in sfc /scannow and let your computer work its magic from there.
Internet errors are a major cause of PC frustration. Oftentimes, an overload of spy ware and ad ware running on your computer can cause your internet to run much slower than it's capable of running. By removing this spy ware and ad ware that is running on your computer, you can speed up your internet connection and avoid many PC errors. There are countless software programs available that find and remove spy ware and ad ware. These programs are inexpensive or even free.
Once spyware and adware have been removed from your computer, it's important to protect your computer with a good firewall. If you spend a lot of time surfing the internet, you're sure to get more spy ware and ad ware on a daily basis. Additionally, computer viruses and bugs spread rampantly from computer to computer so it's worth it to invest in a good firewall program that will protect your computer.
Another type of Internet error is a browser error. Sometimes when surfing the internet, the window will close or freeze without warning. If you are using Internet Explorer, a few seconds later, a window from the Microsoft Internet Explorer Reporting Tool will pop up and ask you if you would like to "send error". If you choose "send error", the tool will not only send a report to Microsoft, but you will also be able to find information about possible fixes or workarounds by pressing the "more information" button and following the instructions.
Another reason that you might be having problems is that your operating system hasn't been updated. Microsoft is constantly updating their operating systems, adding new code, new bug fixes and new perks to their systems. You can find out all about Microsoft updates by typing "Microsoft Windows update" into your search engine. From there, you will be directed to the Microsoft Windows update page where you will find step-by-step instructions for updating your computer. This will make sure your computer is running to capacity and has all of the necessary software updates.
Finally, if you run into an error or problem that really has you stumped, there are countless companies who specialize in PC errors. Sometimes it's better to call in professional help and get your computer fixed rather than dealing with days of frustration and page after page of confusing technical language. While many problems have easy fixes that take minutes to resolve, other problems require professional help.
Modern PCs are complicated machines with hundreds of thousands of programs, functions and roles. When you think about it, it's actually surprising that they run as smoothly as they do. With that in mind, you can assure that your computer is running properly and correctly by occasionally taking the time to update, clean and refresh your computer. Additionally, by installing and maintaining a good firewall protection program, you can make sure that your computer is protected while helping it to run quickly and safely. Taking these steps to protect your computer and keeping it running properly will save you time, money and frustration as you avoid PC errors.
