How to Reveal and Delete Cookies

Cookies are a great tool for many people who browse the web. They keep track of browsing habits and log-in information so that it is easier to browse certain sites. But sometimes, they aren't such a great thing because they show personal information that you may not want others to see. In this case, you'll want to reveal and delete the cookies.

How Do I Reveal Cookies?

It's actually rather simple. The cookies are all stored in a single folder on your computer. The location of this folder may vary depending on your operating system and harddrive, but it's usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Cookies.

Once you've located the folder which your cookies are stored in, you will notice a bunch of different .txts. These are the cookies. You may notice a cookie that says "username@ebay[1]" which would of course be a cookie for eBay. Every cookie that pertains to a certain site will have that site incorporated in the cookie's name. This allows you to quickly find a cookie for a particular site and get rid of it or view it.

To reveal what is within the cookies, you will only need to double click the cookie. Notepad or Wordpad will then open up to reveal the contents of the cookie. You shouldn't edit a cookie unless you know exactly what you are doing, particularly if it is a cookie for an important site you visit as it can mess things up.

How to Delete Cookies

Deleting cookies is a lot like revealing cookies in that you'll go to the cookie folder and take a look at the .txts. You'll delete them the same way you delete other files: by selecting the cookie and hitting the delete button. When you delete cookies, you should also remove them from your recycle bin to ensure they are completely gone.

Programs like ATFCleaner make the process of deleting cookies very easy. With ATFCleaner, all you'll do is download the program, open it and select "delete cookies". ATF will then get rid of all the cookies in the cookie folder. It's a quick, effective way of getting the job done.
